The Convenience Story

Behind the name:

A South Asian convenience store owner is a common motif in most large cities. Like all immigrants, they are the backdrop to the city, yet fade into the background. But to us, these people were never that. They are our families, our uncles and aunts, our mothers and fathers, and their stores have always conveyed something much larger.

After leaving their home countries, many of our parents forfeited their legacies in search of a promising future. They surrendered their egos, pride, and individualities, hoping we could one day bloom because of it. They were forced to start over, and because of this, they resorted to working in factories, driving cabs, and opening restaurants and convenience stores.

What is reduced to a mere stereotype was, all along, a bigger story worth telling.

Convenience Store™ is a reclamation and a celebration of the South Asian journey, legacy, and identity. For too long, others defined who they thought we were. It is now us that tell our own story.

What we do:

We strive to honour South Asian culture collectively, beyond artificial divides. We do this in two ways:

i) Convenience Store™ Collection: Convenience Store™ creates and curates various South Asian-inspired and South Asian-created products for customers to interact with and purchase.
ii) Convenience Store™ Experience: Convenience Store™ hosts community-based experiential and educational events for attendees to gather, learn, and enjoy South Asian-oriented events.

South Asia’s art, culture, and people are what they are only through its interconnectedness and coexistence. This is for us all to call our own.

Welcome, and thank you for shopping at Convenience Store™.
